Open Mic
A few times a year, when the calendar gives us a 5th Tuesday, our entire Tuesday night community comes together for something special — no jam circles, no splitting up. Everyone in one room, one stage, one night.
This is a real listening room, where our own musicians take the stage and share what they've been working on.
This is our community's night to shine.
When
The RMJ Open Mic happens on the 5th Tuesday of the month, 7:00–9:30 PM — roughly 4 times a year. (When the 5th Tuesday falls in December, we move it to the last week of January.)
On Open Mic nights, there are no other jam circles. We all come together.

Solo and duo performers welcome; groups are preferred
-
Need accompaniment? You can request it right inside the sign-up site
Who Can Perform
This event is for our Tuesday night community. It is not open to general public sign-ups — we want this to be a celebration of the people who show up week after week and make RMJ what it is.
How to Sign Up
Sign-ups open approximately 5–6 weeks before the event at open-mic.org.
First week of sign-ups: Reserved for first-time performers — if you've never taken the stage at an RMJ Open Mic, this is your window. Jump in.
After that: Open to everyone in the community.
Watch the RMJ Google Group email for the announcement when sign-ups open.
The Vibe
This is a listening room. We're here to support the people on stage.
-
Take conversations outside the room
-
Bring food and drinks to share — we provide paper products and ice
-
Come ready to listen, cheer, and be moved
Emceed by the incredible Bill S.
Professional sound provided by Wise and Newsom Sound Productions.
Stage crew provided by Ron C. and Mike M. who help keep things moving, helping every act get on and off stage quickly so the night flows smoothly. When you sign up, they will reach out to understand your stage setup.
Live streamed to YouTube by the incredible open-mic.org platform — every performance is recorded so you can re-watch, share with family, or catch it from anywhere if you can't make it in person.
A Note About open-mic.org
Our sign-up system is powered by open-mic.org — a full-featured web app built specifically to make hosting Open Mic events easier.
Here's the story: Early in RMJ's history, Chris Woodbury came to us and said "I'd like to build a web app to help do this online." He started from nothing. What he built is now a feature-rich platform that anyone can use to host their own Open Mic event. We're proud to have been the spark that started it.
Thank you, Chris.
Built on Experience, Fueled by Community
Every Open Mic is better than the last. We've built something we're proud of — great sound, great people, a real stage — and we keep raising the bar. True to our teaching roots, players of all skill levels are welcome on that stage, and every single performer is met with thunderous applause. Come be part of it.
